Sutton Sergeants' & Patrolman's Association
The sergeants and patrolman of the Sutton Police Department are members of the Massachusetts Coalition of Police (M.C.O.P.). Sutton Police members are recognized as local 159 in this law enforcement union. M.C.O.P is a statewide labor organization that represents over two thousand officers in over 93 cities and towns in Massachusetts. M.C.O.P. strives to organize law enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth for the purpose of enhancing police recruiting, training, police services, salaries, benefits, and working conditions.
The police union utilizes M.C.O.P. services to ensure fair and equitable treatment of officers with regard to working conditions and bargaining of labor agreements. M.C.O.P. provides valuable training sessions and various other services that are intended to increase police professionalism. Our local police union has consistently enjoyed positive relations with police and town management. Both have historically worked harmoniously to resolve any disputes and to mutually pursue the goal of establishing and maintaining the highest level of police professionalism and services.
Our police union conducts periodic fundraisers through various community events. Typically the scheduled event, such as a sports exhibition with members of the Patriots, is preceded by telephone solicitations. We would like to ensure all citizens that these solicitations are legitimate fundraising activities and encourage anyone with concerns to contact any member of the police union. The funds raised during these events are utilized for several purposes. The primary target of the funds is for community related benefits, i.e.; school scholarships, sponsoring local sports teams, donations for charitable events, etc. Funds are also expended on various union activities such as attendance at the annual candlelight vigil at the Nation Law Enforcement Memorial which is a ceremony in Washington D.C. during National Police Memorial Week.
Our members proudly serve the citizens of Sutton and others who visit our fine community. We strongly strive to form a partnership with other town employees and our residents to provide services and protection that are second to none. We urge any member of the public who has questions or concerns on any matter pertaining to the union to contact the S.S.P.A. President, Detective Christopher Green at c.green@suttonpolice.com
